What
else can you participate in?
There
are many other aspects of the sixth form in which we welcome
students to participate.
Enrichment courses – short courses that provide for
individual interest, and in many cases extra qualifications.
These currently include;
• British Sign Language
• OCN Counselling Skills
• Film Studies (making/producing short films)
• Sports
• Duke of Edinburgh
• First Aid
We are investigating the possibility of adding;
• Sports leader course
• Cooking for pleasure
• Survival
• DJ’ing
• Martial Arts
We will also consider any reasonable suggestions for the
future
Mentoring
The
success of our S.M.A.R.T scheme this year has allowed students
in the sixth form the opportunity to use their skills and
expertise to help in Key Stage 3 and 4 classes. We have
also run successful after-school clubs in the local primary
schools and would like to continue and expand this scheme
next year.
Key
Skills
•
Whether you are applying to University, College or the world
of work, you will need to develop your skills in Communication,
Application of Number, IT, Improving Own Learning and Working
with Others.
• These areas are known as Key Skills. All who attend
Maesteg School for their studies at Post 16 Level, will
be given the opportunity to acquire certification of these
skills.
• Provision for the collection of evidence required
for the Key Skills accreditation is gathered from the subjects
that students study. This ensures that students are involved
in very little extra work.
• Key Skills are recognised by Universities and can
be used to achieve a place at University. Employers also
require evidence of achievement in Key Skills in applications
for jobs.
• At our Sixth Form we have designed a strong support
network to ensure that you have every opportunity to acquire
the necessary skills to enhance your chances of achieving
your ambitions.
Finally….the ‘social’ side of the sixth
form.
There
are many opportunities to enjoy the social side throughout
the two years in the sixth form.
With
quizzes, 18th Birthday celebration parties, numerous fund
raising events - both inside and outside of the school,
the ‘social’ side can also be fun. We are always
interested in new ideas that can help us continue to raise
money for worthy causes.
We
are proud of the way that we can contribute to the fund
raising activities both for charity, with the sixth form
students being instrumental in organising and running activities
– on Children in Need Day for example, and to help
fund raise for the end of Year 13 School Leavers Ball.
The
ball is to celebrate your success throughout school life,
and to wish you good luck in the future!
The
evening is a glittering occasion where all the Year 13 students
have the opportunity to dress up in their most glamorous
clothes, arrive at the chosen venue in style, and enjoy
an evening of fine food, good company and dance until late!
