The Physical Education Faculty provides every opportunity for pupils to achieve their full potential in a broad range of activities.
In Years 7 to 9 (KS3), pupils take part in Rugby, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Athletics, Tennis, Criket, Dance, Gymnastics and Health Related Fitness, where full participation is required in all activities. During Years 10 and 11 (KS4), pupils are able to add Badminton, Bowls, Volleyball and Aerobics to the list and they can then choose to specialise in a few areas to achieve higher standards.
For those pupils who wish to follow a career in a sport related occupation, there are opportunities provided to study GCSE Physical Education in Years 10 and 11; with a further opportunity in Year 12 and 13 to study AS / A Level.
Extra curricular provision for pupils at Maesteg School is excellent. Pupils are given the opportunity to represent the school in a wide range of activities. The school enters Local, County and National competitions in Rugby, Football, Hockey, Netball, Cross Country, Basketball, Athletics, Tennis and Cricket. Maesteg School has been very successful in achieving both team and individual honours at all levels, as well as recognising and supporting the achievements of pupils representing clubs and organisations in the local community.
For the more adventurous pupils, various trips an tours are also undertaken in order to provide pupils with the opportunity ti ski, take part in Outdoor Pursuit activities and to visit other countries to play against and meet pupils of different nationalities. |
