The Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO) recently held their annual BCBC Volunteer Achievement Awards 2016 at the Heronston hotel, designed to recognise and honour outstanding people and organisations that have made a significant contribution to our community.

We are really proud to tell you that pupils Megan Curling (Year.11) and Angharad Stokes (Year.13) both picked up awards for their wonderful efforts both at school and in the wider community throughout the last year.

Angharad was thrilled to pick up her Highly Commended certificate at the awards:

“I was so happy when Sam from AYPD told me that I had won. I was very excited to be attending the awards ceremony at the Heronston hotel and to meet my favourite DJ, Lee Jukes! It was a great honour to receive my award from Huw Irranca-Davies AM and meet some of the other winners. I would like to thank Sam for nominating me, it feels really special to be recognised for all my efforts working with the AYPD.”

Picking up Volunteer of the Year under 25 Award, Megan was equally as excited:

“I was really shocked when I found out I had won the award, Amie phoned me at home and I was really thankful for the news. The award ceremony was lovely, we had ‘high-tea’ which was delicious and I got to sit next to Angharad! Ann Lloyd from ‘Graham Paul Accountants’ presented me with my award, I felt really proud to receive it and be recognised for all my hard work. This award wasn’t just for me but for all of the AYPD team who have helped me get to where I am today.”

And as if this news wasn’t exciting enough, Megan has also been nominated for Sports Wales Young Volunteer of the Year, the winner of which will be announced in December:

“A gentleman from ‘Sports Wales’ phoned me up to tell me I had been nominated for ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’ – which means 3 young persons from the whole of Wales, have the chance to win this accolade. I was honoured to be considered for this award & I am really looking forward to attending the ceremony at Hoddinott Hall at the Millenium Centre in Cardiff Bay!”

We wish Megan all the best at the up and coming ceremony and offer huge congratulations to Angharad and Megan on their brilliant achievements, we are all very proud of them indeed.
